Why?
It started in Chicago, where I was attending a seminar after I’d been studying and applying his swing methods.
My goal originally was simply to be a better golfer.
And at this seminar I asked him, “Do you mind if I hit a couple of balls with your 8 iron?”
REALLY, I just wanted to know what it felt like to hit the ball like he did...one time.
After a few swings Moe joked, “It’s me...without the belly”.
But because of my commitment to learning his swing (and quite a bit of time on the range together) a lifelong friendship developed.
I was blessed to spend 10 years working closely with Moe, really understanding the details of his swing and deepening that knowledge.
He gave me my nickname, “Little Moe”, and I’ve proudly worn that ever since.
Moe was special.
He never really taught his swing. It was his and he shared it freely, but he never broke it down in a way to be “instructed”.
Over time, I learned Moe’s swing and earned his respect. Then, in close coordination with him, I developed a method of teaching it to others.
I really needed a way to talk about Moe’s swing with other golfers, students, and even professionals so that they could understand Moe’s swing.
It all began because my game had completely changed, and people wanted to know if they could do it too.
The confusion was gone, as were those snap hooks, and push slices.
What was left?
A simple swing with every club in the bag that I hit dead straight virtually every time.
Even Jack Nicklaus talked about golf as a game of misses, and I’d developed the kind of consistency that made people ask questions.
Even the off days were good, and golf was really fun again!
So we built a method of teaching that hadn’t been used before, and would become the foundation of the methods we taught.
We called it the Single Plane Swing.
After being mentored by Moe, I was so excited about golf that (with Moe’s blessing) we opened Graves Golf Academy and life changed.
Since 2000 my brother Tim and I have taught the Single Plane Swing to 131,188 golfers, and had more than 1,000,000 golfers download our books.
All trying to learn the swing built by Moe Norman.
